The Hoops Summer Basketball league kicked off its ninth season with games beginning on May 20. Thirteen different high schools are represented in the league which features some of the most talented players in the area.
Allie Berry fired in 11 points and had scoring support from Kim Kaville and Jessica Segilla as Penn State defeated Tennessee 54-27 in summer league play. Sarah Corbett and Dakin Hewlitt combined for 15 points for Penn State.
Liz Borgia scored 11 points as Rutgers upended North Carolina 38-34. Kayla Buciarelli fired in 13 points for North Carolina.
Sarah Corbett scored 16 points and Dakin Hewlitt and Colleen Walsh added 12 points each as Tennessee got by North Carolina 59-41. Jamie Montella scored 10 points for North Carolina.
Rutgers received balanced scoring from Kayla Gatto with 16 points and Liz Borgia with 12 points in their 53-46 victory over Duke. Rosanne Clister scored 10 points for Duke.
