The Birchwood Turkey Classic Tennis Championships concluded last weekend with several local players either winning or placing in their division.
The tournament was a U.S.T.A. sanctioned Eastern Pennsylvania District event that has been held at Birchwood since 2002.
Pete Kazmierczak of Old Forge won the boys 14 and under division. In the finals he defeated Brian Mowrey of Allentown 6-4, 7-6. Kazmierczak finished 2009 ranked number one in the boys 12 and under division of the EPD District.
Alyssa Joanlanne, a 15-year-old sophomore from Wyoming Seminary, was a double winner. She won the girls 18 and under singles division and then proceeded to team up with her younger sister Nathalie to win the girls 18 and under doubles.
Joanlanne defeated Amelia Halloran of Clarks Summit in the singles finals 6-0, 6-0.
In the doubles final the sisters faced Abriana Nolan of Honesdale and Allie Pusatari of Clarks Summit.
Jimmy Tressler of Clarks Summit placed second in the boys 12 and under division. He lost to David Lynn of Northwood 7-5, 6-1.
Tatiana Klacko, an 11-year-old from Scranton, who is currently ranked fourth in the District, finished second in the girls 12 and under division, losing to Lilijana Semak of State College in the finals 7-6, 6-3.
Bijoy and Anita Gosh, a senior and sophomore at Wyoming Seminary, advanced to the finals in their respective divisions.
Bijoy lost to Ashkay Damany, a highly ranked player from Allentown in the boys 18 and under final 6-1, 6-0.
Anita lost to top seeded Marielle McIntyre of Bethlehem 6-0, 6-3.
The next junior tournament to be held at Birchwood Tennis and Fitness Club will be the Holiday Classic held December 26 to 28.
