On Thursday, Sept. 11, events were held in Waverly and Scranton in remembrance of tragedies that took place seven years earlier during terrorist attacks on the U.S. Abington Memorial Post 7069, VFW, Clarks Summit, in conjunction with the Waverly Community House held a memorial service in the morning on North Abington Road. Later, in Scranton, Interdependence Day 2008 was held at the William J. Nealon Federal Building and United States Courthouse. Each year, an Interdependence award is given to honor a person in the community. This year, it was given to Edward G. Boehm Jr. the president of Keystone College in La Plume. On Sunday, September 14, an estimated 1,000 bikers came out for the Sgt. Jan Argonish Memorial Ride at Milestone Ranch. Sgt. Argonish lost his life on August 27, 2007 while fighting for his country in Afghanistan.
