Abington Arsenal claims championship

The Abington Arsenal completed its regular season in the Back Mountain Youth Soccer League with a 5-3 overall league record this spring. The team dropped two matches to the Mt. Top Bears and split a pair of matches with the Valley Sockers, however came back in the playoffs to defeat both teams and win the championship. Against the Valley Sockers, Colin Klingman scored on a direct kick from 20 yards out in the last four minutes of the game, as Arsenal shut out Valley 1-0 in the semi-finals. Noah Machek was outstanding in goal as was the entire Arsenal defense led by Colin McCreary. The team gave up an early goal against the Mt. Top Bears in the championship match but came back with two first half goals by Jordan London and Nick Skierkowski to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the half. Arsenal put the match away with four second half goals from Bradley Sopinski, Packie Cronin, Nick Skierkowski, and Brendan Conahan to defeat the Bears, 6-2, and win the championship.
