The First Annual Health Fair of the BAPS Indian Temple took place Sunday afternoon, April 17. It served 115 residents of northeastern PA who either lack insurance or lack of ability to communicate their problems because of cultural barriers or language barriers. Participation was open to non-members of the Temple too. Each of the participants were seen first by a primary care provider and then referred to a specialist if a concern arose. The primary care providers also provided basic instruction on diet and exercise. At this health fair, was a unique coming together of physicians practicing in Luzerne, Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Bucks Counties of specialities including Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Radiology. Students from Abington Heights High School, Scranton High School, Crestwood volunteered at registration.
