A Susquehanna County bus driver is dead after the bus she was driving July 6 collided with one being driven by her husband.
County coroner Anthony Conarton said Ruth Lynady, 72, was ejected from the bus she was driving in the crash in Ararat Township, about 30 miles north of Scranton.
Lynady was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to State Police at Gibson, the crash occurred just after 10 a.m. when Ruth and William Paul Lynady of Clarks Summit were driving buses owned by Gene Tranovich Bus Co., Scott Township and traveling north on Route 2077. Conarton said the buses were driving together to a nearby camp at the time of the crash. No passengers were aboard.
William Lynady missed a right turn onto Township Road 503 and began to slow his vehicle before coming to a stop. Ruth Lynady also missed the turn and drove her bus into the back left of the bus driven by her husband. Her bus then traveled into oncoming traffic and into a ditch along the west side of the southbound lane, through a field and back onto Route 2077.
William Lynady was transported to Marion Community Hospital in Carbondale by Thompson EMS and hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Uniondale, Pleasant Mountain Fire and EMS responded to the scene.
Family confirmed the relationship between the Lynadys.
