“Arts for Aimee” is the theme of this month’s Downtown-Go-Around on April 11.

Committee member and Duffy’s Coffee House owner, Mari Walker, said the April theme evolved into Arts for Aimee, because “we are trying to raise funds for the McGarry family.”

Aimee McGarry, Clarks Summit, was diagnosed with Choriocarcinoma a rare, aggressive form of cancer on Feb. 12. She’s receiving treatment at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

“We will never be able to thank all of the people of the Abingtons enough, but we want all to know it is greatly appreciated… This whole experience has taught us so much about ourselves and about the friends we have at home,” said Aimee’s husband, Pat, via text message.

A few of the venues collecting funds for the McGarry family at the Downtown-Go-Around will include Duffy’s Coffee House, 312 S. State St., the Clarks Summit Borough Building, 304 S. State St., Sole to Soul, 535 S. State St., and the Clarks Summit Fire Company, 321 Bedford St.

Art for Aimee, an exhibitioncreated by Abington Heights School District elementary, middle and high school students will also be displayed at borough building and Duffy’s Coffee House, and all proceeds from the sale of the art will be donated to the McGarry Family.

A pizza sale and basket raffle organized by Aimee McGarry’s brother, Ernie Schultz, will be held at the Clarks Summit Fire Company hall on Bedford St. Basket raffles and will continue on Sat., April 12 at Duffy’s.

Other artists showcasing their work are artist/illustrator, Beth Tyrell at Duffy’s, Freelance artist and photographer, Melissa Wisniewski at Cloe & Company, 410 S. State St., and Photography by David Elliot at Everything Natural, 426 S. State Street.

Elliot, a professor of English, Emeritus, at Keystone College will be featuring photographs of time spent on the Aegean Islands of Greece.

Live musical entertainment can be found at Duffy’s, from 5 to 10 p.m. and Basement Jam with Nate Montella and Co. at Everything Natural.

The Downtown-Go-Around is a monthly arts event held on the second Friday of each month and is organized by a committee formed under the auspices of the Abington Business & Professional Association. The hours are 5 to 9 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
