Richard Dick Ross, Scranton, formerly of Dalton, died Saturday, July 14, at home after an illness. He was the widower of Delores Marie Ross who died in April of 2001. Born in Dalton, he was the son of the late John and Rhoda Wilsey Ross. Prior to living in Scranton for 21 years, he lived in Dalton and the surrounding area for most of his life. Prior to retirement, he drove truck for 40 years. He was a Word War II veteran in the Army Air Corp., and a member of the American Legion. He was a man that loved fishing, horses and growing his own vegetables. Surviving are a son, Mark Ross, and wife Karen, Glenburn; two daughters, Karen Ross, Scranton and Deborah Buntz and husband Mark, Dalton; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rhoda Thomas, Scranton and Margaret Staff, Tunkhannock; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard D. Ross Jr., and daughter, Michele Myers. A funeral was held on Tuesday, July 17 at 7 p.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit with services by Rev. Curt Underwood, pastor of the Hickory St. Baptist Church, Scranton. Interment will be at a later date in Dalton.
