The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Junior Knights Bantam team traveled north to New York to face a strong Cortland Flames hockey team.
The Flames started hot as they fired two quick goals within the first six minutes of play. The Knights did not back down as goalie Cody Smargiassi gathered his defensemen.The boys found themselves on the board with a goal late in the first period from Shane Welsh, assisted by Julian Maza and Tyler Loftus.
Midway through the second period, the Knights tied the game as Brandon Longhenry found the back of the net. Wingers Brian Becker, Ryan Gilmartin and Lewis Hackling did their job to hold a 2-2 tie.
Late in third period, Matt Hanahue cleared the puck from the defensive zone with a pass on the tape to Paul Albert, who took it down the right side, beating two defenders. Albert snapped a wrist-shot to the top left corner of the net with 2:04 remaining in the game for a 3-2 lead. The Knights played hard and fought off the final 2:04 minute onslaught to extinguish the Flames.
The Knights extend their winning record to 4-2-1.
