Twenty-nine families in the Carbondale Area and Scranton School Districts recently successfully completed the Strengthening Families Program for Parents and Youth age 10 to 14. Strengthening Families is a seven week, two-hour program designed to improve parenting skills, build life skills in youth and strengthen family bonds. The program has been proven to reduce adolescent substance abuse and other behaviors in youth who transitioning from middle to high school.
The programs are funded for the 2007-08 school year through grants from the Lackawanna County Children and Youth Services and donations from the Lackawanna County Commission For Women
Strengthening Families Program sessions will run this winter in the Scranton and Carbondale Area elementary schools beginning in February. For more information, call 963-6842.
