Shirley Herbert, wife of Walter Herbert, passed away peacefully at home. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen Demming and a lifelong resident of Scott Township. She was a graduate of Scott High School and also attended Lackawanna Junior College. She was a lifelong member of the Free Methodist Church of the Abingtons and a person of great faith, who lived her life with honesty, quite dignity, and grace. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and sister who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was always willing to give of herself unselfishly to those she loved always offering her help in anyway she could. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, needle point, baking, reading and crossword puzzles. She had a love of flowers and plants. She loved music and to sing. She was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word. Her loving presence and many special touches made the house she and her husband shared a safe and secure haven for her children and grandchildren. A house that you never wanted to leave and always wanted to come back to. Surviving are daughters Carol Stine, York and Kimberly Rosar, Scott Twp.; three sisters, Lois Miller, Dalton; Sharon Webb, Rd. Olyphant and Linda Magnot, Rd. Olyphant; two brothers, Elwood Demming, Justus and Arlin Demming, Rd Olyphant; two granddaughters Jenelle Troxell and Holly Kapinus and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held on Monday, Sept. 10 from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by Rev. Carol Chisenhall, pastor of the Free Methodist Church of the Abingtons. Interment will be in Stone Cemetery.
