Students and staff at the Abington Heights Middle School will recognize Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 9, with programs scheduled at each of the four grade levels. Col. Steve Zarnowski, of the 109th infantry, and Mike McLane, a Vietnam Veteran and officer in the Clarks Summit V.F.W., will speak to fifth and sixth grade students during morning programs. Col. Loris Lepri, who is an Abington Heights graduate, and Police Chief Robert Gerrity, who presently has a son on active duty in the Middle East, will speak to seventh and eighth grade students during afternoon programs. An ensemble of music students under the direction of Rebecca Santoro will present a selection of patriotic music at each of the four programs. Any parents or relatives of middle school students who are veterans or who are currently serving on active duty are being invited to attend the program in order to be recognized for their service. Veterans who plan to attend are asked to call the school by November 5 at 585-4326.
