CLARKS SUMMIT — Gail Rees, of Scranton, was honored as the recipient of the R. Matthew Burne Lifetime of Service Award for 2014 at a ceremony held by The Abington Journal Feb. 3 at the Ramada. In memory of the award’s namesake, the Burne Family donated $2,000 to the charity of Rees’ choosing, Meals on Wheels NEPA.
Clarks Summit Borough Mayor Patty Lawler, who nominated Rees for the award, spoke at the event, along with Karen Palumbo, of Meals on Wheels NEPA and Dotty Martin, Times Leader Community News Group editor. In attendance on behalf of the Burne Family was Michael Gramigna, who presented the check to the organization. Many community members and friends attended in support of Rees.
