Local girls basketball teams achieve winning records

Abington Girls All Star team achieved a winning record of 9-3; they won their first playoff game against Riverside with the final playoffs game this weekend.

The Abington Youth Basketball League fourth and fifth-grade girls team also achieved a winning record of 10-1. The final playoff game is this weekend. David Scoblick coaches both winning teams with help from Pam Heard and Ray McDonald on the All Star team.

The fifth-grade girls NEPA Flames AAU Basketball team was selected. Members are Mia Blume, Olivia Canfield, Claire Evans, Hailey Long, Maggie McGrath, Avery McNulty, Rowan Murray, Caroline Murray, Elizabeth Pettinato, Caroline Stampien, Cierra Toomey and Stephanie Yatko.

Carrie Toomey coaches the team. Practice is twice a week at the Backcourt Hoops in Scranton. The team plays in both local and out of town tournaments in Philadelphia, Hershey and New Jersey, which start at the end of March.
