MOOSIC — Local Boy Scouts volunteered their time at the Jog For Jude 5k Run/Walk. Boy Scout Troop 66, Dunmore was tasked with keeping the grounds clean and the garbage bins empty. Troop 21, Dickson City also gave a helping hand.

The event celebrated the life of Jude Zayak, who would have celebrated his first birthday on April 19, had his life not been taken by SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), the number one cause of death in children under one year of age in the U.S.

Billy Sweeney, cousin of Jude, spent his time enjoying family, games and when the time came, cleaning up after the event. Tim Walsh, of Dalton, volunteered with Marley’s Mission as a youth ambassador. His focus was to snap photos through his Camera For A Cure and help maneuver the crowd during the balloon release at 12:02 pm, the time of Jude’s birth.

The Jog For Jude attracted approximately 1,500 people. Over 1,200 runners and walkers registered.
