The Friends of the Abington Community Library Spring Book Sale is nearly here, so mark your calendars. The sale will be held at the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature thousands of used books, audio books, CDs, and DVDs. It’s sure to be great fun. Come and browse for bestsellers, old favorites, and everything in between.

We’re going green, so please bring your own bags to haul your treasures. Also support the library’s Teen Leadership Committee by purchasing delicious treats from their bake sale. The TLC sponsors many fun children’s events at the library, including LEGO Club and Family Storytime.

The library is no longer accepting donations for the Spring Book Sale as we have run out of space. We will begin accepting again after April 27. Thanks to all who have donated.

During that same weekend, check out our Truffula Trees sculpture at the library, created as a result of the Abington Business & Professional Association’s bottle cap art project. The Truffula Tree is a spectacular plant from the imaginings of Dr. Seuss described in his book, “The Lorax.”

You never know what new display you will find at the library; we are always pleased to display local artwork. This project is especially significant because of the reminder of how important recycling is for our environment. Not only that, but recycling something old can create something pretty beautiful.

Looking for a new movie right away?

On your next library visit, check out our shelves of 7-Day DVDs, including Blu-Rays. These movies cannot be placed on hold or renewed, so pick one up when you are able. Some new titles include: “Delivery Man,” “Saving Mr. Banks,” “12 Years a Slave,” “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Gravity,” “Captain Phillips,” and “American Hustle.” Catch up on films that got lots of buzz during awards season and let us know what YOU think.
