The 12th Annual Dietrich Theater Fall Film Festival will this year, for the first time, run for three weeks, Friday, Sept. 19 through Thursday, Oct. 9. In past years, the festival ran for two weeks with between 14 and 17 films. This time around, an additional week was added to the schedule, with 25 films booked.

The Fall Film Festival will launch with an Opening Night Gala at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19. The evening will be celebrated with two films and hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Epicurean Delight, Twigs Restaurant and Café, the Fireplace Restaurant, Ma Greenley’s BBQ and Seasons Restaurant. Wine and beer will be provided by Nimble Hill Vineyard and Winery and Nimble Hill Brewing Company and a spread of desserts will be offered by Epicurean Delight.

The featured films of the evening include “Magic in the Moonlight,” directed by Woody Allen, and “The Trip to Italy,” directed by Michael Winterbottom.

Tickets to the Opening Night Gala are $35 each and can be reserved by calling the Dietrich at 570-996-1500. Reservations are required for Opening Night only.

An added bonus this year is the availability of a festival pass that will cover admission to 10 film festival movies and save purchasers $5. The pass is $80 and can be purchased by calling 570-996-1500 or at the ticket booth during normal business hours.

Another feature of the 2014 Fall Film Festival will be the Post Festival Discussion at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10. This will give festival-goers the opportunity to discuss the meaning and significance of some of the film festival movies with others who have seen them. It also will give patrons a chance to know more about the movies they may want to see. The discussion will be facilitated by Hildy Morgan and Ronnie Harvey, film buffs extraordinaire.

Admission to the discussion is free and all are welcome to attend. Registration is not required.

This year’s selection of films chosen by Jeffrey Jacobs, Hildy Morgan and Ronnie Harvey are “Magic in the Moonlight,” “The Trip to Italy,” “Fed Up,” “On My Way,” “The Grand Seduction,” “Chef,” “A Most Wanted Man,” “Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago,” “The Immigrant,” “Belle,” “Redwood Highway,” “Words and Pictures,” “The Railway Man,” “Begin Again,” “Ida,” “Le Chef,” “Life Itself,” “Finding Vivian Maier,” “Land Ho!,” “Calvary,” “Alive Inside,” “Boyhood,” “Violette,” “Yves Saint Laurent” and “Citizen Koch.”

Tickets to festival films excluding the Opening Night Gala are $8.50 each.
