The 13th annual Dalton 2-mile yard sale will be held on Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale runs from the Dalton Pharmacy on North Turnpike Road to Route 438 at the La Plume Post Office.

“There will be about 30 families participating,” said Susan Davidson, who organizes the event with her husband Thomas.

Each year, Davidson contacts past participants to see if they’d like to take part in the event again. There is a $5 fee which will go toward advertising and posters.

Cindy Wohlken and her family purchased their home on North Turnpike Road in 2006 and moved in 2007. This is their seventh year participating in the sale and they look forward to it every year.

“My son is 10 and it gives me a chance to clean out closets and recycle items,” Wohlken said. “I will be selling toys, clothes and books. I love the sale.”

People can also shop for antiques, household items and even airplane parts. One house will be selling a tractor and cart.

Parking will be available behind the Dalton Post Office.

“I would suggest people not park across from the Dalton Pharmacy at the meters,” Davidson said. “The meters are for only 30 minutes and it is enforced. The cars will be ticketed.”

Shoppers should wear comfortable shoes and bring a rolling cart, baby stroller or wagon. People are asked to bring smaller bills and not larger denominations such as 50’s and 100’s.

Food will be provided by the women of the Dalton United Methodist Church. A tent will be set up near 610 North Turnpike Road and coffee and doughnuts will be for sale in the morning. Hot dogs, wimpies, soda, water, iced tea and lemonade will be for sale throughout the day. The Dalton and Factoryville United Methodist Church Vacation Bible School will hold a bake sale.

“The Arc of Northeastern Pa. brings their clients and aides. They have their change purses and buy things for a quarter,” Davidson said. “I get satisfaction from doing this. I get to see everyone from the neighborhood and people come from all over. I have met people from Kingston, Newfoundland and Montrose. There is something for everyone.”
