Are you a woman interested in learning to fly fish? June 8 “Ladies Intro to Fly Fishing” will be held at Hillside Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is free and no fishing license is required.

The program is open to woman age 18 or older and lunch is provided. The event is being sponsored by the PA Fish and Boat Commission.

“This educational program is designed for ladies interested in learning the basics of fly fishing equipment, knot tying, casting techniques and on water skills” according to www.fish. state.pa.gov.

All the equipment including rods, reels and flies will be provided.

There will be five female instructors from the Fish and Boat Commission. Amidea Daniels, PA Boat and Fish Commission Education Specialist will be the head instructor. Amidea’s husband, George, is a professional fly fisherman who’s written a book “Dynamic Nymphing Tactic Techniques and Flies From Around the World.”

Together they enjoy fly fishing.

“We thought with woman instructors, the course participants would feel more comfortable,” said Charles Charlesworth Vice President PA Council Trout Unlimited.

Trout Unlimited undertook a nationwide women initiative to have women become interested in learning about the environment and conservation.

“Women can come together and do fly fishing as a social event and also learn about the environment,” Charlesworth said.
