Dear Editor:

I recently had the opportunity to attend the “First Annual Scranton ½ Marathon Race”. What a sight to see over 2,400 runners lining up on Providence Road to begin their 13.1 race. Included in this race is a beautiful scenic view from the trails of the Lackawanna River. What a great day for Lackawanna County.

With the 500 runners from Scranton and the many attending from outside our state just loved our community. What a great economic impact on all of our local businesses.

Hats off to Matt Byrne, director/owner of Scranton Running Company, and the many volunteers that assisted on that day. You made our community very proud I’m sure many of these runners will be coming back in October for the 19th Annual Steamtown Marathon.

This will again showcase our community, the area and the beautiful fall foliage on their trek from Forest City to downtown Scranton.
