Public Works Director Thomas James announced during the April 28 Waverly Township meeting that a tentative start-up date of Monday, May 5 has been made for the wastewater treatment facility.

Construction on the wastewater treatment plant began last year to upgrade the facilities equipment and enhance productivity.

“They are still waiting on a few electrical parts, but the electrician feels confident that if they get them within the next couple days we’ll be ready to go,” James said.

Engineers from Boston, who have been kept updated on the project, will be attending the facilities’ test run. A ribbon- cutting ceremony will be scheduled for a later date.

Lackawanna County Community Relations Coordinator, Gerard Hetman, shared a few upcoming activities happening at the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders baseball field. Saturday, May 3, is Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The event will also feature guided tours, pony rides for children and plenty of giveaways.

High school All-Star baseball players from Lackawanna and Wyoming Counties will be competing against each other in a “Field of Dreams” ball game on June 1.

The township’s electric company, PPL, is offering an incentive program on all exterior lighting. They will supply 10 to 12 exterior light fixtures free of charge. The township will only be responsible for an installation fee of $1,968.

The new fixtures will be an upgraded model that will use less energy. A motion was made by Supervisor Thomas Durbin to approve the upgraded lighting.
