United Neighborhood Centers (UNC) of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s Elm Street Revitalization Project began hosting a South Side Farmers Market five years ago. It grew from a small idea at Connors Park in Scranton to a market that now hosts over 200 people each week over the summer.

This winter, for the first time in Scranton, UNC will host an indoor farmer’s market.

The idea for the Winter Market came from vendors who participate in the summer months and want to continue to provide fresh local food during the winter. Ten vendors are signed up to participate, featuring items such as fresh meats, hydroponic lettuces, artisan breads, herbs, vegetables, pottery and various handcrafted items.

Vendors include Quails-R-Us, Twin Brook Farms, Rowlands PA Produce, Fran’s Fabulous Foliage, Overlook Farm, Beta Bread Bakery, TJ Morgan’s Spices, No Bull Ranch, and Spring Hills Farm.

The South Side Winter Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday beginning Nov. 1. It will be held for the first two weeks at 601 Cedar Ave. (the former VacWay building) before it moves to its permanent location at 529 Cedar Ave.
