The inaugural Golf for the Cure will be held on Monday, May 5, at the Scranton Municipal Golf Course with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

Costs are $360 per team and $90 per individual, in a captain and crew format. Hole sponsorships are available for $50 per hole. The event includes food, drinks and prizes. For more information, call Mike Schulte at 570-677-7510.

The first “Shoot Down Breast Cancer” Clay Bird Shoot will take place at the Factoryville Sportsman Club on Sunday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Admission is free, but there’s a cost to shoot or eat. Eye and ear protective gear is required when shooting. If not shooting, there are other activities to enjoy throughout the day, while supporting a good cause.

Money raised from both events will be donated to Komen NEPA Race for the Cure®, and will be dedicated to combating breast cancer on every front. Up to 75 percent of the affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local non-profit hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically uninsured and underserved women and men.

The remaining net income, a minimum of 25 percent, supports Susan G. Komen National Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.
