Griffin Pond Animal Shelter announced its annual Halloween Pet Parade and Fall Festival will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at its property, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Township. Registration will be held from noon to 1 p.m. and the parade starts at 1 p.m.

Registration costs $5 per pet. Guest judges will be on hand to award winners for the best in pet costume categories: scariest, funniest, most original, pet and owner character team and pets group theme.

The event offers something for everyone, with professional and artistic vendors, horse drawn carriage rides, Halloween and fall themed pet photos, pet paintings, an animal communicator, airbrushed face painting and tattoos, homemade food and baked goods, Nina’s Bite Mobile, music, games, pet accessory and craft vendors and more. Local Artist Sheila Sankar will be on hand with her Paintings and available to discuss pet portraits.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.

“A common mistaken belief about Griffin Pond Animal Shelter,” said shelter representative Jess Farrell in a news release, “is that our shelter is operated and funded by either (or both) Lackawanna County government and the National Humane Society of the United States.”

In reality, the shelter does not receive any financial funding or operational support from any national animal organizations or government entity including Federal, State or County Governments. The organization is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit and relies solely on proceeds from fundraising events and community generosity.
