Such festivity on Summer Fest Opening Night.

“Paris Can Wait” was an invitation to travel the roads of France just to experience the scenery and sites, the food, the wine, and a slowed down way of life. Appropriately, it was followed by one of Americans’ favorite desserts – strawberry shortcake made to your liking. Judging from comments heard at the end of the evening, the movie favorite of the evening was the second movie, “Their Finest.” It is the story of an all-male British movie production staff that finally realizes a woman writer was needed to help write the script of a propaganda film to boost morale during World War II, bringing a needed woman’s touch. Don’t miss this very fine World War II film with a very timely story.

My favorite Summer Fest movie so far is “My Cousin Rachel,” based on Daphne Du Maurier’s classic novel. Its dark tale is so beautifully filmed and magnificently acted by Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin. Even if you never read the book, you will be sure to be totally engaged with the tale of the very mysterious Rachel and her beguiling spells.

I must tell you of our great good fortune to have found Abi and Tim Zieger, our wonderfully talented music teachers. Let me tell you how a day at the Dietrich with Abi Zieger progressed.

In the morning, she taught Music for Littles, children 2 to 5 years old, teaching songs and using instruments. Then she joined Tim in the Jam Along Band Camp for ages 6 to 12, helping students learn all about Jug Band instruments and the chance to bring their own, practicing rhythm and playing with a group. In the afternoon, the clients of Keystone Community Resources walked across the street to meet Abi and Tim for Jam Along Band Camp for adults, resulting in the pure joy of making music. Later in the afternoon, both Tim and Abi took their string bass and violin and guitar to the Tunkhannock Methodist Manor for a lovely concert for the residents.

In the course of the day, Abi’s sunshine personality and Tim’s musical talents delighted participants from ages 2 to 97. Thank you Tim and Abi for all you do. We are so glad to have you on our team.

We are so grateful to the Overlook Estate Foundation that sponsors these music programs. We were also able to take 21 children and adults to the Everhart Museum for a special guided tour because of the Overlook Estate Foundation. It was a wonderful excursion for everyone. Thank you for your continued support Overlook Estate Foundation.

Now, on to special events coming up.

The ever-popular Donna LaBar will return from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 with a sometimes neglected health topic, that of elimination.

Donna says, “I will share the importance of proper elimination of waste from the body. I will include how breath, the skin, liver and kidney function and blood pressure all play roles to increase the body’s capacity to process and eliminate toxins.”

She always brings samples of delicious foods and their recipes to keep you healthy and her book is always for sale. She stays as long as anyone has questions.

All are welcome and tickets are available at the door.

National Theatre Live from London returns at 2 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 13 and 20 with “Obsession” with Jude Law, directed by Ivo van Hove.

Matt Truemann in Variety says, “It is a thriller played out in slow motion.”

Gino, played by Jude Law, is a drifter, down-at heel and magnetically handsome. In an encounter at a roadside restaurant with husband and wife Giuseppe and Giovanna, Gino and Giovanna are irresistibly attracted to each other and begin a fiery affair. “Obsession” is bound to keep you riveted every second.

To some of us, just watching Jude Law on screen is worth the price of admission.

“The sun will come out – tomorrow” if you some to see the next film in the Dietrich Film Favorites.

Yes, “Annie,” the 1982 hit movie musical will be on the big screen and it is free. You are invited to see the classic “Annie” with Albert Finney, Carol Burnett and Tim Curry at 1 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16. Bring the family. Tell your friends. It’s a sure way to make the sun come out.

But the sun is always out at the Dietrich Theater. All we need is for you to be there.
