DALTON — At the July 9 council meeting, Dalton Mayor Aaron Holzman swore in six new police officers. The police officers were William Morgan, Justin Brown, Patrick Butkiewicz, Stephen Hall, Matthew Sims and Ralphie Ortega will serve Dalton, Factoryville and Nicholson.

In other business, board member Kyle Brown asked for Facebook and Twitter accounts for Dalton Borough.

“We’ve been having the web page for four months now,” he said. “The next step would be to get a Facebook account.”

Holzman inquired about posting comments on a Facebook wall.

“How will it be so it doesn’t reflect on everybody on the board’s opinions, so it won’t seem biased?” he asked.

Board member Jared Gard answered by saying that some Facebook pages don’t allow comments and suggested a Facebook account without no comment icon.

In his mayor’s report, Holzman mentioned he participated in a conference call with Kelly Rossiter from DCNE (Department of Conservation and Natural Resources) about the park grant which will bring renovations to the baseball fields of Dalton Streamside Park. He said the board needs to give a final payment for the grant before starting the project.

In his health and sanitation report, Kyle Brown said he saw upholstered furniture inside the recycling bin in the municipal parking lot. He will write a letter of reminder of which items are allowed in the recycling bin and which items are not allowed. He will post the letter on the bulletin board in the Dalton Post Office.
