SCRANTON — The Diocese of Scranton and United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania (UNC) completed an agreement for the UNC to lease Camp St. Andrew for the 2016 summer camping season. The organization will operate Project Hope and a girls resident camp and girls and boys basketball camps there in July.

The lease agreement was announced on Friday, Feb. 5. In addition, the Diocese and UNC continue to discuss a potential permanent transfer of the camp facilities to UNC.

Registration forms for the 2016 camp season are available on UNC’s website at uncnepa.org, by calling 570-346-0759 or e-mailing bobrien@uncnepa.org.

The Diocese announced the cessation of operations at Camp St. Andrew at the close of the 2015 summer camping season after an assessment of camp operations. On Nov. 29, more than 200 people gathered in front of St. Peter’s Cathedral before the 10 a.m. Mass, wearing camp shirts and holding signs imploring the bishop to “KEEP Camp St. Andrew OPEN.”
