SCRANTON — Dr. Albert F. Giallorenzi will be honored as the Scranton Chapter of UNICO’s UNICAN of the Year for 2015 at the chapter’s 57th annual charity fundraiser, to be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27 at Fiorelli’s, Peckville.

This event is open to the public, and reservations are required, by calling 570-558-8519. Tickets are $60.

Msgr. Joseph Quinn will serve as toastmaster.

Giallorenzi is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry, Philadelphia and served his internship at the Philadelphia General Hospital and was an Oral/Maxillofacial Surgical Resident at Hahnemann Medical College for three years. Dr. Giallorenzi maintained a private practice for forty years in association with Drs. Christopher Kotchick, Mark Giallornezi and Justin Burns with offices in Scranton, Carbondale and Tobyhanna. He retired from practice as an oral surgeon in 2013.

He was licensed in Pennsylvania for dentistry and held memberships in a wide variety of professional associations, including Chief of Service at Mercy Hospital for 37 years, president and later board chairman of the Scranton Dental Society, chaired the United Way Dental Division and served as a member of the Advisory Committee to the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Examiner for Board Certification for the Committee of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, PA Department of Welfare consultant, Jewish Federation Indigent Dental Clinic, Third District Dental Society Board of Governors, Professional Affairs Committee; PA Dental Association and served on the Dental Staff of St. Michael’s School for Boys for nineteen years. His family was the host family for the Thanksgiving Family to Family program.

He received both Diplomate and Fellow honors from the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, American College of Dentists, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology, International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard International Dental Honor Society.

Giallorenzi was affiliated with Mercy, Moses Taylor, Community Medical Center, Marion Community Hospital and St. Joseph’s Children’s & Maternity Center, all located within Lackawanna County.

He gives freely of his time in multiple roles of community service, including the American Cancer Society, Chairman of the Apostolic Committee at St. Gregory’s Church, Clarks Green, Cub Scout Pack 152, Coach; Abington Junior Soccer League, Waverly Community House, Holy Cross Club of Northeastern Pennsylvania and serves on the Board of the Scranton Chapter of UNICO National.

He has contributed articles to professional journals like the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, Journal of Oral Surgery, and Oral Health. He also edited the Bulletin of the Scranton District Dental Society.

He is married to the former Diane Valera and they have two adult children, Dr. Mark A. Giallorenzi and Christina Giallorenzi.
