SCRANTON — The AFA Gallery, 514 Lackawanna Ave., will feature two exhibits March 3 through 25: “On Gravity,” with works by Emily Harris, Tobin Rothlein and Brendan Hughes, and “Altered States,” by Shane McGeehan.
“On Gravity,” to be displayed in the first floor gallery, will feature installations and sculptures, some using low-tech materials, focusing on tension, balance, and the work responding to its environment.
McGeehan’s “Altered States” will be on display in the second floor gallery.
Using a combination of photography, digital art, audio editing and lighting effects, McGeehan explores the states of human consciousness. This exhibition will include combination of large-scale audio-visual installations as well as traditional imagery.
As a part of AFA’s workshop and lecture series, McGeehan will host a short Q&A about his work, then a group meditation session. This event will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5. It is free to the public and donations are appreciated. Participants are asked to bring a yoga mat or blanket for the meditation.
Opening receptions for both exhibits will be held from 6 to 9 pm. during First Friday, March 4. The gallery hours are 12 to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. For more information, email artistsforartgallery@gmail.com or call 570-969-1040.
