SCRANTON — Orecchiette pasta with kale, sausage and pine nuts is one of many items on the menu for the Rotary Club of the Abingtons’ annual Taste of the Abingtons fundraiser, slated for Sunday, Oct. 2 at the Ramada in South Abington Township. The dish will be served by A Little Pizza Heaven, an Italian-American restaurant, one of the dozens of area businesses which with gather under one roof for the event.
According to Darryl Bartlett, who co-owns the restaurant with his wife, Toni Cerra, this will be the business’ sixth or seventh year participating in the event.
“We love it,” he said. “We have a good time up there.”
He said it’s not only a good way to reach new customers, but also to give back to the community.
A Little Pizza Heaven, located in the Green Ridge section of the city, features both “old-school” Italian dishes and a variety of selections with a newer twist. The orecchiette recipe is a new one to be featured on the eatery’s fall menu.
Admission to the event, which will feature sampling of food, wine and cigars; music and entertainment; raffles; a wine pull and silent auctions with smartphone bidding, is $35. Funds raised will benefit Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign, as well as club projects in the local community.
