Welcome, September! I hope everyone is ready for fall. This month at the Dalton Community Library, we will begin new sessions of our children’s StoryTime program and our afterschool program, Kid’s Crew.

Our first StoryTime program this fall will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20. It begins at 11 a.m. and will be held most Tuesdays to follow. All children not yet in elementary school are invited to come listen and discuss stories, review the alphabet and numbers up to 10, dance a little, sing a little and make crafts. StoryTime is a special time to share, learn, participate and most of all, have fun. StoryTime also gives children the opportunity to make friends and interact.

So, mark your calendar and let the fun begin.

Another of our kids’ programs beginning this month is Kid’s Crew. This afterschool group is for first grade and up. It will also begin on Sept. 20 and will be held at 4 p.m. most Tuesdays. The beginning session of Kid’s Crew we will do projects pertaining to space exploration and building. Since the kids have showed interest in the planets, moon, stars and sun, we will start off discussing space and letting the kids build or draw their ideas either. This afterschool program is a great way for kids to unwind on a Tuesday afternoon. The kids get to socialize, discover, and share opinions while interacting. It’s a great way to have fun while learning and de-stressing.

The adult programs at our library are being conducted this fall as well.

Mahjong groups meet on Mondays and Thursdays, while Bridge group meets on Tuesdays, with all programs beginning at 10 a.m. These groups are for beginners or any level player.

One of our adult book discussions is held at 1:30 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month. This month’s discussion will be the book, “Unbecoming,” by Rebecca Scherm. A second adult book discussion group will meet this month on the last Saturday, Sept. 24. This group starts at 10:30 a.m. and is called, “Saturday Spotlight.”

Tuesdays at 4 p.m. is our program, “Casual Chat” and anyone can join in the conversation.

We have a knitting group that meets at 1 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. For anyone interested in knitting, please call us for information on scheduling.

Our library has some patrons that are interested in a crocheting group and we are looking for someone who’d like to conduct the group. If anyone is interested in volunteering to head this group, call Jennifer Familetti at the Dalton Community Library 570-563-2014, or email JFamiletti@albright.org.

With October soon on the way, please remember that we will hold our Fall Book and Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15. Call the library with any questions or concerns at 570-563-2014.

Lastly, as program coordinator, I’d like to thank all the kids and families that made our summer reading program so wonderful. Everyone’s kindness and smiles make every effort of the summer reading program worth it. We made special works of art to give to a local cancer treatment center, held special programs and shared many laughs. I look forward to next summer already.

Have a spectacular September, and great back to school time!
