CLARKS SUMMIT — The borough has two junior council seats open to either high school juniors or seniors who reside in Clarks Summit.

The Junior Council Person (JCP) Program provides youth in the community with an opportunity to get engaged in borough government and develop leadership skills. It also allows borough officials to serve as mentors to students who will be future leaders in their communities.

The JCP sits at the council table and participates in the discussions and debates of the council men and women. He or she is also involved in projects council is working on. The program is an opportunity to see government in action.

Participation runs from October through May and participants are are not expected to stay later than 9 p.m. at meetings.

Those interested should submit a letter of interest to Borough Manager Virginia Kehoe at clarkssummitmanager@gmail.com or Clarks Summit Borough, 304 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.

These letters will be reviewed and discussed at the council work session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. The applicant is encouraged to attend the meeting and meet the members. The council will then vote to select the JCP at its Oct. 5 meeting.
