SOUTH ABINGTON TWP. — Inspired by fall, Eugene Litz, of Thirteen Olives, along with his sister, Lisa Litz, a professional pastry chef, plans to prepare spiced walnut layer cake with olive oil mousse for the Rotary Club of the Abingtons’ upcoming Taste of the Abingtons fundraiser.
“I wanted to do something unique with olive oil,” he said. “A lot of people don’t necessarily think about baking with olive oil.”
The event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2 at the Ramada, featuring dozens of area businesses gathered under one roof. Local restaurants and eateries will offer samples of various dishes, and a separate area will be reserved for wine sampling and cigar smoking. Money raised benefits Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign, as well as the local club’s charitable programs.
This is Thirteen Olives’ third year participating in the fundraiser, and Litz said it’s one of many opportunities he utilizes to get outside his store and be involved in the community.
“It’s a good cause, it’s local, and I see a lot of customers there and there’s a lot of potential for new customers,” he said, adding it is worth it to gain even one new customer.
Admission to the fundraiser, which also includes music and entertainment, raffles, a wine pull and silent auctions with smartphone bidding, is $35. For tickets or more information, visit tasteoftheabingtons.com.
