HARRISBURG — State Rep. Marty Flynn recently announced the South Abington Township Police Department is one of nine recipients in the portion of Lackawanna County he represents approved to receive a total of $910,021 in funding by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The township is to receive $35,000 to upgrade its police vehicles.

The money was provided through the Local Share Account under the state gaming law, which receives its funding from casino proceeds.

The other Lackawanna County grants include:

• $220,000 to renovate and upgrade the Everhart Museum of Natural History, Science and Art

• $195,000 to pave Oakwood and White Birch Drive in the Oakwood development in Scranton’s west side

• $125,000 to pave and re-grade the Keyser Valley Community Center parking lot

• $115,000 for curb appeal improvements in the Scranton Downtown Improvement District

• $100,000 on behalf of VFW Post 25 to build the Scranton Veterans Memorial Park

• $44,000 for the Scranton Fire Department to purchase a fire marshal vehicle equipped for a K-9 officer

• $39,021 to upgrade playground equipment at McLain Park and make it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act

• $37,000 to renovate the West Scranton High School strength training facility
