TUNKHANNOCK — Certified yoga instructors Gerri Simmers and Julie Ver Beek are on a mission to introduce 6-to-12-year-olds to the benefits of yoga.

With special animal names for poses and other kid-friendly approaches, they are offering free Yoga for Kids at the Dietrich Theater on Saturday, May 20. Ages six to eight will meet from 10 to 10:45 a.m., and ages nine to 12 will meet from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

The benefits of yoga for all ages include working on flexibility, balance and coordination. Yoga also promotes focus and concentration.

Making yoga fun for kids is one the goals of Yoga for Kids. Children will learn the elephant, dinosaur, frog, monkey and lion poses. From the downward dog pose, they will even teach the donkey kick pose.
