S. ABINGTON TWP. — The Doug Smith Band with Erin Mallow will bring a dose of Dixieland to Hillside Park on Wednesday, Aug. 2, for the seventh concert in the 2017 Lakeside Wednesday Concerts series, presented by the Abington Area Joint Recreation Board (AAJRB).
Admission to all concerts in the summer-long series is free, and non-perishable donations are collected each week for the Dalton Food Pantry. The shows are held rain or shine from 6 p.m. to dusk under the park’s lakeside pavilion.
The Waverly Masons will offer food sales during the event. Concertgoers may also bring their own picnics and enjoy the many amenities the park has to offer, including fishing, canoeing, walking/jogging trails, bocce ball, a playground and more.
Dancing is encouraged.
The Doug Smith Band has been the house band at Poconos resort Skytop Lodge for more than 25 years. Its repertoire includes a diverse mix from early swing and Dixieland to modern-day popular tunes. The lineup consists of Erin Malloy, vocals; RJ Kennedy, drums; Tom Kozic, guitar; Tom Hamilton, saxophones, and of course, Doug Smith, on bass.
The weekly concert series kicked off on June 21 and will run through Aug. 30, with a different band taking the stage each Wednesday. The Doug Smith Band show follows Retro Rocket’s July 26 performance.
The series is sponsored by Peoples Security Bank, Senator John Blake, Oliver, Price and Rhodes Attorneys at Law; Walmart, the Abington Jr. Comets, Citizens Savings Bank, Toyota of Scranton, The Abington Suburban, Pallman Farms, Abington Journal, Sweda Advertising, the Abington Area Girls Softball League, Abington Youth Soccer League and Lamar Advertising.
