S. ABINGTON TWP. — Following the Brass and Ivory Orchestra’s Aug. 9 performance, Doreen and Friends will continue this year’s Lakeside Wednesday Concerts series at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 at Hillside Park on Winola Road.

The group is comprised of Doreen Hudak Coleman, Stephen Faubel, Scott Kwiatek and Michael Kwiatek.

Coleman is a vocalist and pianist who performs in Pennsylvania and New York City, offerin musical style that is a mixture of pop, jazz, blues, gospel, world music and meditative song.

Faubel is a soulful pianist and singer well versed in jazz, blues, rock, pop, classical and world.

Kwiatek currently studies at the Eastman School of Music and his specialties include jazz and classical performance on the double bass.

Kwiatek, a veteran drummer and musician with diverse musical styles, has appeared with numerous groups at local, regional and national venues.

Admission is free to all shows in the concert series, which kicked off June 21 and runs through Aug. 30. Non-perishable donations are collected each week for the Dalton Food Pantry.

Concertgoers are welcome to bring their own picnics and food will also be available for sale from the Waverly Masons. People can also take advantage of the park’s many amenities during the event, such as canoeing, fishing, walking/jogging, bocce ball, a playground and more. The concerts are held from 6 p.m. to dusk under the park’s lakeside pavilion, rain or shine, and dancing is encouraged.

The series is presented by the Abington Area Joint Recreation Board (AAJRB) and sponsored by local businesses.

This year’s concert series sponsors include Peoples Security Bank, Senator John Blake, Oliver, Price and Rhodes Attorneys at Law; Walmart, the Abington Jr. Comets, Citizens Savings Bank, Toyota of Scranton, The Abington Suburban, Pallman Farms, Abington Journal, Sweda Advertising, the Abington Area Girls Softball League, Abington Youth Soccer League and Lamar Advertising.
