Solar Eclipse Day is Aug. 21 here at the Abington Community Library.

A solar eclipse happens when the moon casts a shadow on Earth, blocking the sun’s light in some areas. Do you have plans for the big eclipse? Why not stop by the library and join us for viewing and activities?

Stop by our community room from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21 for a livestream of the eclipse. Check out books on the sun, moon, and stars to learn more about space. Create a special art project and make your own pinhole camera. The kibrary has a limited amount of solar eclipse viewing glasses, so call or stop by to see if you can get a pair for the big day. Several pairs will be available to use at the library only.

In September, join us for the beginning of fall storytimes. Baby Storytimes for ages 0-2 include a playtime, short books and songs, and bubbles. Toddler Storytimes for ages 2-3 will have the wiggly ones moving with rhymes and songs while also enjoying books and crafts. Preschool Storytimes for ages 3-5 feature books, songs, activities, and crafts.

Register today by stopping in or calling the library at 570-587-3440.

Thank you to all who made this year’s Summer Reading Clubs for all ages our biggest year yet. More than 650 children registered this year and not only read all summer long but also completed extra activities and competed in special contests. Thank you to everyone who made summer programming possible this year. Though we lost some funding, your donations made it possible to still have great events for our community. Kids, teens and adults enjoyed various special programs like Cupcake Wars, Birds of Prey, Pop Art for Families and Battle of the Books.
