Faculty and staff from Marywood University and other local colleges and universities, as well as individuals in leadership positions within the community, are encouraged to submit proposals and present.

The 50-minute presentations can cover a wide range of topics. Students in attendance will be of various ages and experience levels from Marywood University and other local institutions. Those interested in presenting should contact the Student Activities and Leadership Development office at Marywood University at 570-340-6016. Information can also be found online at marywood.edu/studentactivities.

If selected, presenters will be notified of their presentation time by Friday, Sept. 8.

The keynote speaker at the CONQUER Student Leadership Conference at Marywood University is Eric McElvenny, a Christian, husband, father, Marine, speaker, amputee, endurance athlete, ironman, mentor and coach.

McElvenny resides in San Diego, Calif., with his wife and three children. He earned a mechanical engineering degree from the United States Naval Academy while preparing for his service as a Marine Corps Infantry Officer. He deployed three times as a Marine and, on his final tour, was wounded after stepping on an improvised explosive device (IED).

Faced with a physical challenge and an uncertain future, he made a promise to himself to run an Ironman Triathlon. During this journey, he realized the challenge and adversity he was up against, as well as the technique he used to reach the finish line, could be used against the challenges of all.
