CLARKS SUMMIT — The Gathering Place is seeking artists and craftspeople to participate in two monthly events that will feature local talent.

The Fourth Friday of October will be the kick-off for the Gallery Exhibit featuring the work of established and emerging artists of NEPA. The Inaugural Gallery Exhibit will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 27 at The Gathering Place, 304 S. State St. This will be the first of a continuing series of exhibits to be held on the Fourth Friday of every month. Artistic pieces will be exhibited from the Oct. 27 opening reception until Dec. 27. Throughout the year, a new theme and new artistic works will be presented for display and sale.

This venture, opened to the public, is designed to bring art to downtown Clarks Summit.

Area artists, including student artists, interested in showing and selling their work, are encouraged to submit up to five pieces that fit this month’s theme: “People.”

“The Gathering Place is about people coming together to create this wonderful space, so we thought that ‘People’ would be an appropriate theme,” Emily Rancier, vice-president of the center, ssaid in a news release. “We are looking forward to seeing the many different interpretations of ‘People’ that area artists have created.”

A juried panel will select the works to be displayed from all genres, including painting, ceramics, photography, glass, ceramics, jewelry, fiber, metal in abstract or more traditional approaches. Entries may be submitted by emailing a high-resolution digital image to GatheringPlaceCS@gmail.com by Sept. 27.

For further details, artists should visit GatheringPlaceCS.org or call Gallery Coordinator Dori Waters at 570-954-6650.

In addition to Fourth Friday Gallery exhibit, The Gathering Place will conduct an Art Market from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Second Saturday of the month. The Art Market is a venue in which artists and craftspeople of many genres can exhibit and sell their creations in a non-juried forum. Last month’s market featured potters, jewelry designers, purse and clothing creators and more. Area artisans who wish to participate can find more details at GatheringPlaceCS.org.

In addition to the displayed works, each Second Saturday will have a live art demonstration. This month’s program will feature Emily Rancier’s presentation of her felting skills. Emily’s expertise in this time-honored craft is evident in the hats, scarves, wall hangings and other items she has made from raw wool fibers. The following second Saturday, Sean Brady, an area wire sculptor, will present a live demonstration of his craft.
