TUNKHANNOCK — 1,050 and counting.

Harry Sweppenheiser, of Tunkhannock, has seen 1,050 movies at the Dietrich Theater since 2004. Not only has he seen the movies, but he has also recorded when he saw them. Sweppenheiser maintains that some people collect stamps, hub caps or other collectibles.

“For me ,it is movies,” he said in a news release.

For Sweppehnehiser, it is film festivals that inspire him to see every one of the movies shown, sometimes as many as 23 movies in three weeks. When asked why he likes these foreign and independent movies, he said he loves the insight one gets into other cultures, seeing how other people live in other countries and walks of life.

The Dietrich Theater Film Favorite series, the free monthly showings of classic and acclaimed films of years past, is another way he has added to his list of films he has seen.

He will sometimes see movies more than once, as he did with “Slum Dog Millionaire.” Also, not to be missed for Sweppenheiser are Woody Allen films, any of the Marvel comics films, and any Coen brothers films.

When it comes to his movie enjoyment, Sweppenheiser says the icing on the cake is when he attends Film Festival Opening Night Galas. On Gala Night, he collects not only two movies to add to his list, he also collects many friends among other moviegoers.

He says his Dietrich membership support is a “win, win, win” – a win for him, a win for the Dietrich, and a win for the community.
