S. ABINGTON TWP. — Elan Gardens celebrated Veterans Day with a program honoring its residents and staff members who served in the military. The event, initially planned to begin outdoors with a flag raising and 21-gun salute by members of VFW Post 7069, was forced indoors by the cold weather, featuring instead a flag-folding demonstration.
The program also included a brief presentation by VFW Chaplain and Clarks Summit Borough Councilman Patrick Williams, a patriotic sing-a-long with musicians Jim Selingo and Frank Casty, both U.S. Army Reserves veterans, and a dessert reception.
Williams and VFW Post Commander Don Jones conducted the flag-folding demonstration.
Elan Gardens residents who served in the U.S. Army include Paul Burke, WWII; Anthony Duboski, post Korea; James Ellenbogen, WWII; Joseph King, WWII; Robert Mancabelli, post Korea; and Alfred Reich, WWII. Resident Edmund Bezak served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Residents who served in the U.S. Navy are Robert Habeeb, WWII; Thomas Hopkins and Albert London, WWII. Resident Leonard Albert served in the U.S. Public Health Service during WWII.
