TUNKHANNOCK — The Breaking Ground Poets (BGP) will present Breaking Boundaries, a fundraiser to support students from Wyoming and Lackawanna counties as they travel to Brave New Voices in July. Brave New Voices is an International Youth Poetry festival run by Youth Speaks to provide young people with a safe space to make their voices heard.
Breaking Boundaries will be held 6 to 9 p.m. June 27 at Shadowbrook Inn and Resort in Tunkhannock. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, and all proceeds will support the six teens who will be traveling to Atlanta to compete at Brave New Voices.
Included in the ticket price is a cash bar, hors d’oeuvres, basket raffle tickets, and various performances from local artists, including musicians such as the acoustic trio from Londonforce, Skip Monday, Steve Werner and Justin Passetti of The Prophets. Poets and writers include Alicia Grega, Casey Telesk, NEPA Scene’s Rich Howells, and Jim Warner, published author and former managing editor at Quiddity Lit, with an appearance by TwentyFiveEight Studios owner Markie Dennebaum. Also featured at the event will be storytellers from Scranton StorySlam and the Breaking Ground’s own internationally competing poets, as well as BGP Intern Keri Klinges and founder Katie Wisnosky.
This all-star event is open to anyone 21 and over or under 21 and accompanied by an adult.
