Lackawanna College hires new baseball coach

SCRANTON — After completion of a national search, Lackawanna College hired Bruce Thompson of Sartell, Minnesota, as head coach of its baseball program on July 22.

Thompson comes to the college after serving as an assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. While at St. Cloud, he helped lead the Huskies to a 2013 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship and NCAA Central Region runner-up finish.

The Lackawanna Falcons baseball team has enjoyed a number of recent successes including their 2015 NJCAA Region XIX Division II title. Since 2009, current and past members of the Falcons baseball team have been selected five times in the Major League Draft. Earlier this year, 2014 graduate Rich Condeelis was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 36th round.
