Cavaliers sweep cluster meet

Scranton Prep defeated Honesdale, 18-37, Western Wayne, 25-30, and Forest City, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 22 in Scranton. Pat Cosgrove led Prep with a fourth place finish in 17:55. A.J. Sluko finished seventh in 18:27, Thomas Fitzgerald came in ninth in 18:44, Colin Jenkins placed 11th in 18:56, Brendan Betti finished 12th in 18:57, Tarquin McGurrin was 13th in 18:59, Greg Bormes placed 15th in 19:00 and Kerry Lyons finished 16th in 19:01.

Classics pick up two wins in meet

Scranton Prep defeated Western Wayne, 15-50, and Honesdale, 15-46, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Sept. 22 in Scranton. Prep’s Erin Feeney placed first overall in 18:46. Kate Reilly finished fourth in 19:53, Anna Brier was sixth in 20:43, Adiya Golden placed seventh in 20:46, Mia Belucci finished eighth in 20:47, Kaitlyn Walsh was 17th in 22:51, Rachel Kerr placed 18th in 22:58 and Lindsay Notarianni finished 20th in 23:05.

Comets sweep cluster meet

Abington Heights defeated Scranton, 22-37, West Scranton, 19-43, and Mid Valley, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League meet on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in Archbald. Dan Uhranowsky led the Comets with a fifth place finish in 17:12, Kyle Burke was eighth in 17:46, Jack Malone placed ninth in 17:49, Nathan Kiezer finished 12th in 17:58, Chase Yarns was 13th in 18:14 and Adam Traweek placed 14th in 18:15.

Lions drop two matches

Lackawanna Trail was defeated by Delaware Valley, 24-32, and Wallenpaupack, 15-49, in a Lackawanna League meet on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in Milford. Matt Kinback placed 10th in 18:39 and Bobby Titus finished 20th in 19:29.

Lady Comets sweep meet

Abington Heights downed Scranton, 15-48, West Scranton, 15-50, and Mid Valley, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League meet on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in Archbald. Katie Dammer placed first overall in 18:41, Alex Scheuermann finished second in 19:19, Claire Traweek was fourth in 19:45, Meghan Beahan placed fifth in 19:58, Carly Danoski finished sixth in 20:27, Emma Marion was 12th 21:37, Maddie Show placed 14th in 21:45 and Annie Wesolowski finished 15th in 21:58.

Lady Lions place in meet

Lackawanna Trail did not have enough finishers to qualify for a team score, but Ashleigh Clarke finished third overall in 21:46, Amanda Kinback placed 10th in 24:11 and Kathleen Rodenbach was 20th in 27:16 during a meet with Delaware Valley, Mountain View, Susquehanna and Wallenpaupack on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in Milford.

Lady Lions down Lady Grenadiers

Lackawanna Trail defeated GAR, 5-1, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in Factoryville. Courtney Dwyer scored two goals, and Cali Fauquier, Madison Lee and Elizabeth Rodenbach each scored one for Trail. Sarah Weisenfluh made five saves for the Lady Lions.

Crestwood blanks Abington Heights

Crestwood downed Abington Heights, 11-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in South Abington Township. The Lady Comets had 13 saves.

Lady Comets top Lady Warriors

Abington Heights defeated Elk Lake, 4-1, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Friday, Sept. 25 in Dimock. Phoebe Sebring, Anna Baruffaldi, Ashley Mercado and Maura Jenkins scored goals for the Lady Comets. Dani Beamish had two assists, and Baruffaldi and Mamie Dempsey each had one. Olivia Mendo and Ashlynn Fitzgerald combined to make five saves.

Lady Tigers shut out Lady Lions

Jan Buford scored a goal off an assist from Rachel Dillard to lead Tunkhannock over Lackawanna Trail, 1-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Friday, Sept. 25 in Factoryville. Sarah Weisenfluh made one save for Trail.

Lady Lions rout Lady Hawkeyes

Lackawanna Trail downed Hanover Area, 8-2, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Monday, Sept. 28 in Hanover Township. Elizabeth Rodenbach led the Trail with three goals. Courtney Dwyer and Lauren Benner scored two, and Cali Fauquier scored one. Fauquier, Madison Lee, Lauren Baldwin, Jordan Laytos and Benner each had an assist.

Lady Mountaineers shut out Lady Comets

Dallas defeated Abington Heights, 6-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Monday, Sept. 28 in Dallas. Olivia Mendo and Ashlynn Fitzgerald each made seven saves for Abington Heights.

Cavs edged by Knights

Scranton defeated Scranton Prep, 14-13, in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division 1 game on Friday, Sept. 25 in Scranton. Quarterback Jake Ryan scored two rushing touchdowns for the Cavaliers.

GOLF

Classics place second in golf tourney

Scranton Prep placed second out of five teams in the Mid Valley Girls Golf Classic on Tuesday, Sept. 22 in Scott Township. Kristen Davis shot a 38 to finish in a tie for fourth place. Reilly Ruane shot 41 to finish ninth, and Alex Fitzsimmons and Emily Goryeb each shot 44 to tie for 14th place.

Comets, Cavaliers golfers qualify for districts

Six Scranton Prep and five Abington Heights golfers qualified for the District 2 Class 3A tournament on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in Roaring Brook Township. Marco Nieto, of Scranton Prep, carded the top score with a 73. Abington Heights’ Matt Mecca finished fourth with a 76, Abington Heights teammates Luke Fayocavitz, Sam MacGregor and Sahas Chandragiri finished in a three-way tie for seventh place by shooting 78’s. Prep’s Tom Keegan shot 79 to finish 10th, Prep teammates Sebastian Cimoch and Jack Habeeb finished in a four-way tie for 12th by shooting 80. Tyler Marchese, of Scranton Prep, placed 16th with an 81, Abington Heights’ Troy Kelleher shot 84 to finish 18th, and Scranton Prep’s Frank Adamo shot an 85 and won a five-way playoff to claim the final spot.

Scranton Prep defeated Valley View, 8 1/2 – 1/2, in a Lackawanna League match on Thursday, Sept. 24 in Lake Ariel. Marco Nieto, Sebastian Cimoch, Tyler Marchese, Jack Habeeb, Tom Keegan won individual matches. Frank Adamo picked up a split. The teams of Cimoch-Marchese, Habeeb-Keegan and Adamo-Nieto had wins in doubles play.

Comets sweep Invaders

Abington Heights defeated West Scranton, 9-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Thursday, Sept. 24 in Clarks Summit. Eric Mahoney, Sahas Chandragiri, Sam MacGregor, Colin Florey, Andrew Jalowiec and Matt Mecca won individual matches. The teams of Mahoney-Chandragiri, MacGregor-Florey, and Jalowiec-Mecca won in doubles play.

Classics win battle of unbeatens

Scranton Prep defeated Abington Heights, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in Scranton. Emily Jonsson, Maansi Malhotra and Gabi Jakubek picked up singles wins for Prep. The teams of Mira Patel-Tatiana Klacko and Gaba Horchos-Amelia Desiderio won in doubles play.

Abington Heights defeated Forest City, 3-1, in a Lackawanna League match on Thursday, Sept. 24 in Forest City. Cassie Toth has nine kills and seven digs. Mariah Tulaney had nine kills, and Marissa Lewis contributed five aces and 23 assists for the Comets.

Lady Wildcats shut out Lady Lions

Western Wayne downed Lackawanna Trail, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Thursday, Sept. 24 in Factoryville. Madisyn Peoples led Trail with eight assists. Lydia Dunckle had seven digs and Carolyn Mack contributed six assists.
