Lakeland defeated Lackawanna Trail, 59-54, in the Cal King Memorial Tournament on Friday, Dec. 11 in Factoryville. Steven Scioscia scored 14 points to lead Trail. Cody Stuenzi and Ronnie Traver added 12 each for the Lions.
Tigers tame Trail
Tunkhannock topped Lackawanna Trail, 46-34, in a non-league game on Wednesday, Dec. 9 in Tunkhannock. Anthony Berrios and Steven Scioscia each scored 10 points for Trail.
Cavs outlast Cougars

Wyoming Seminary defeated Lackawanna Trail, 54-30, in a non-league game on Tuesday, Dec. 8 in Factoryville. Travis Ankoff led Trail with seven points while Steven Scioscia, Cody Stuenzi and Jake Sanders each scored five for the Lions.

Northwest Area downed Lackawanna Trail, 68-34, in a non-league game on Monday, Dec. 14 in Shickshinny. Ally Decker led Trail with 13 points and Lexie Kwiatkowski added nine for the Lady Lions.

Nicole Getz scored 16 points to lead Abington Heights past Wyoming Area, 57-34, in a non-league game on Tuesday, Dec. 8 in Exeter. Hannah Kowalski and Cassie Ksiazek each added 11 points for the Lady Comets.

Abington Heights topped Elk Lake, 116-68, in a Lackawanna League meet on Monday, Dec. 7 in Springville. Shane Cummings placed first in the 200 and 500 free, Brendan Conahan finished first in the 50 free, Colin Florey was first in the diving competition, Charlie Gromelski placed first in the 100 fly, Thomas Clifton finished first in the 100 free and 100 breast, and Brooks Houck was first in the 100 back. The team of Ben Vale, Chris Suh, Cummings, and Sam Jubon placed first in the 400 free relay. The team of Conahan, Cummings, Clifton and Jubon were first in the 200 free relay and the team of Conahan, Gromelski, Vale and Jubon finished first in the 200 medley relay.
Lady Comets beat Lady Warriors
Abington Heights defeated Elk Lake, 110-73, in a Lackawanna League meet on Monday, Dec. 7 in Springville. Margorie Myers placed first in the 200 individual medley, Sydney Dana finished first in the diving competition, Isabella Camayd was first in the 100 fly, Sarah Bath placed first in the 100 back and Laura Hartman finished first in the 100 breast. The team of April Sokalsky, Hartman, Leah Byman and Karley Feather placed first in the 200 medley relay and the team of Sokalsky, Aliza Selznick, Hartman and Catherine Simakaski finished first in the 200 free relay.
Abington-area teams compete
Abington Heights placed seventh out of 13 schools, while Scranton Prep finished ninth and Lackawanna Trail was 10th, at the Lackawanna League Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Wallenpaupack High School in Hawley.
Abington Heights had two wrestlers place first in their weight classes: Noah Sirianni at 113 lbs. and Nick Carr at 170. Scott Jacoby placed third at 106, Owen Hivner placed fourth at 182 and Adam Wellard finished fourth at 195.
Lackawanna Trail’s Trent Phillips placed first in the 195-pound weight class and Tyler Baltrusaitis placed second at 138.
Scranton Prep’s Thor Balavage placed first in the 285-pound weight class and Ivan Balavage placed second at 182.
Warriors top Lions
Wyoming Area downed Lackawanna Trail, 39-27, in a non-league match on Thursday, Dec. 10 in Factoryville. Trent Ashley and Trent Phillips won by decision for Trail. DJ Klinges won by technical fall, Robert Buck and Tom Kohinsky won by forfeit, and Justin Ganser won by major decision.
Warriors edge Cavs
Wyoming Area defeated Scranton Prep, 42-36, in a non-league match on Wednesday, Dec. 9 in Exeter. Thor Balavage, Tommy Carroll and Ivan Balavage had pins for Prep. Matt Soliman and Bruce Parola won by decision, and Mike Welsh and Chris Bender won by forfeit.
