Cavs pick up two wins

Scranton Prep defeated Elk Lake, 25-30, and Blue Ridge, 15-50, but lost to Montrose, 18-41, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Scranton. Tommy Fitzpatrick placed fifth in 18:07, A.J. Sluko placed ninth in 18:34, Nick Gershey was 12th in 18:44 and Kerry Lyons placed 14th on 19:05.

Comets capture four wins

Abington Heights topped Lackawanna Trail, 19-42, Lakeland, 19-41, Susquehanna, 17-46, and Mountain View, 18-43, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Factoryville. Kyle Burke placed second in 17:54, Dan Uhranowski finished third in 18:13, Ryan Siebecker was eighth in 19:21, Adam Traweek placed 13th in 20:17 and Ethan Mattox finished 15th in 20:40.

Lions notch one win

Lackawanna Trail defeated Valley View, 21-37, but fell to Abington Heights, 42-19, and North Pocono, 42-19, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Factoryville. Matt Kinback placed fifth in 18:52 and Bobby Titus finished 14th in 20:22.

Cavs place 13th

Scranton Prep placed 13th out of 14 teams during the Lackawanna County Commissioners Invitational Saturday, Sept. 10 in Scranton.

Cavs compete at Penn State

Scranton Prep boys placed fifth in the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational Saturday, Sept. 10 in University Park. Tommy Fitzpatrick led the team with a 15th place finish in 17:38. Peter Burke finished 25th in 18:04.

Prep’s girls team placed seventh in the team standings. Adiya Golden finished 31st in 21:32 and Mia Belucci was 32nd in 21:34.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Lady Comets claim four wins

Abington Heights defeated Lackawanna Trail, 18-43, Lakeland, 15-50, Susquehanna, 15-49, and Mountain View, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Factoryville. For Abington Heights, Katie Dammer placed first in 19:27, Alex Scheuermann finished third in 21:30, Emma Marion was fifth in 23:27, Sarah Bath placed seventh in 23:52, Annie Wesolowski finished 11th in 24:34 and Erica Beahan was 15th in 25:09.

Lady Lions held winless

Lackawanna Trail was defeated by Abington Heights, 43-18, North Pocono, 40-21, and Valley View, 40-21, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Factoryville. Ashley Clarke placed sixth in 23:36 and Tori James finished ninth in 24:28.

Classics earn two wins

Scranton Prep defeated Montrose, 24-31, and Blue Ridge, 15-50, but lost to Elk Lake, 35-20, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Scranton. Allison Walsh placed 10th in 22:20, Adiya Golden finished 13th in 22:42, Kate Welby was 14th in 22:43 and Mia Bellucci placed 15th in 22:50.

Lady Crusaders shut out Lady Comets

Coughlin defeated Abington Heights, 4-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Wilkes-Barre. Ashlynn Fitzgerald made four saves for the Lady Comets.

Lady Lions blank Lady Tigers

Lackawanna Trail downed Tunkhannock, 4-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Factoryville. Lauren Beamer, Lauren Baldwin, Courtney Dwyer and Madison Lee had goals for Trail. Dwyer had an assist and Sarah Weisenfluh made three saves.

Lady Lions edge Lady Buckhorns

Lackawanna Trail defeated Wallenpaupack, 4-3, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Monday, Sept. 12 in Hawley. Courtney Dwyer, Madison Lee, Lauren Beemer and Lauren Baldwin each scored a goal for Trail. Dwyer added an assist and Sarah Weisenfluh made three saves.

Crestwood wins battle of Lady Comets

Crestwood shut out Abington Heights, 6-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Monday, Sept. 12 in South Abington Township. McKenna Thorpe made 16 saves for Abington Heights.

Lions crush Crusaders

Thomas Huffsmith ran for three touchdowns to help Lackawanna Trail defeat Holy Cross, 35-14, in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division 3 game Friday, Sept. 9 in Factoryville. Anthony Berrios also rushed for two touchdowns for the Lions. Nathan Rolka converted three extra points and Huffsmith converted a two-point conversion.

Cavs clobber Black Knights

Scranton Prep topped Lake-Lehman, 44-8, in a LFC/WVC crossover game Saturday, Sept. 10 in Scranton. Ricky Morgan, Jake Ryan, Matt Gilmartin and Brayden McAllister each ran for a touchdown. Ryan also threw touchdown passes to Jake Grady and Mario Giannone. Alec Buttner converted a 24-yard field goal and five extra points.

Scranton Prep defeated Riverside, 7 1/2- 1 1/2, in a Lackawanna League match Tuesday, Sept. 6. in Taylor. Tyler Marchese, Frank Adamo, Evan Murphy, John Redman and Jack Habeeb had individual wins for Prep. The teams of Marchese-Adamo and Redman-Habeeb had better-ball wins while Murphy-Sebastian Cimoch earned a split.

Spartans top Lions

Mid Valley defeated Lackawanna Trail, 5 1/2 – 3 1/2, in a Lackawanna League match Tuesday, Sept. 6 in Nicholson. Andy Faist had an individual win, and Jacob Wescott and Owen Hyde each earned a split. The team of Richard Rodenbach-Faist won in better-ball play and Wescott-Hyde earned a split.

Comets clip Hornets

Troy Kelleher, Pat McGrail, Connor Kelleher and Luke Fayocavitz had individual wins to lead Abington Heights over Honesdale, 7 1/2 – 1 1/2, in a Lackawanna League match Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Clarks Summit. Conor Newman earned a split. The teams of T. Kelleher-McGrail, C. Kelleher-Nick Sebastianelli and Newman-Fayocavitz earned better-ball wins for the Comets.

Comets blank Warriors

Abington Heights defeated Delaware Valley, 9-0, in a Lackawanna League match Thursday, Sept. 8 in Clarks Summit. Luke Fayocavitz, Kyle Porpiglia, Daniel Flickinger, Dan Munley, Will Brown and Troy Kelleher had individual wins for the Comets. The teams of Fayocavitz-Porpiglia, Flickinger-Munley and Brown-T.Kelleher won in better-ball play.

Lakeland defeated Lackawanna Trail, 9-0, in a Lackawanna League match Thursday, Sept. 8 in Factoryville.

Cavs top Meteors

Dan Hinton, M.J. Spivalla, Eric O’Dell, Collin Ennis and Jake Kosierowski had individual wins to help Scranton Prep defeat Montrose, 7-2, in a Lackawanna League match Friday, Sept. 9 in Mount Cobb. The teams of Hinton-Spivalla and Ennis-Kosierowski had better-ball wins.

Comets tie Cougars

Abington Heights and Valley View tied, 4 1/2 – 4 1/2, in a Lackawanna League match Monday, Sept. 12 in Mount Cobb. Troy Kelleher, Connor Kelleher and Luke Fayocavitz had individual wins for the Comets. The team C. Kelleher-Nick Sebastianelli had a better-ball win for Abington Heights and Will Brown-Fayocavitz earned a split.

Cullen Myers scored three goals to lead Scranton Prep over Mountain View, 7-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 game Tuesday, Sept. 6 in Scranton. Kyle Zaboski added two goals, and Corbin White and Angelo Terrana each added one. Garry Wrobleski made three saves for Prep.

Abington Heights downed Honesdale, 4-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Honesdale. Jonathan Rickwood scored two goals for the Comets. Sam Stevens and Liam Neary each scored one.

Abington Heights and Wallenpaupack tied, 0-0, after two overtimes in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match Thursday, Sept. 8 in Hawley. Jackson Danzig made 20 saves for the Comets.

Emma Baker had nine kills to help Abington Heights defeat Elk Lake, 3-0 (25-13, 29-27, 25-20), in a Lackawanna League match Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Dimock. Emily Crowley had 17 assists and Brooke Reiner 15 digs for the Lady Comets.

Dunmore defeated Abington Heights, 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-22), in a Lackawanna League match Thursday, Sept. 8 in Dunmore. Brooke Reiner and Jasmine McDuffie had nine digs each for the Lady Comets.
