Two BMX racers from Lackawanna County claimed the Pennsylvania State Championship titles for their classes on Sunday, Aug. 21 in Pittsburgh.

Christian Black, of Mayfield, and Gavin Bruno, of Carbondale, each took first place in their respective classes.

Nick Brajuka Jr., of Peckville took fourth place in his class while Vito Mecca, Scranton took fifth place in his class. Aiden Scarpa, Mocanaqua and Angelo Scarpa, Mocanaqua also competed in the state championship races.

The six Northeastern Pennsylvania racers competed against hundreds of BMX racers from across the state. The top 10 racers in each age group are eligible to compete in the Race of Champions in Oklahoma over the Thanksgiving weekend.
