Abington Heights’ softball team claimed the Lackawanna League Division 1 championship, the District 2/11 Class 5A subregional championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class 5A playoffs, falling to Donegal, the eventual state champion, 6-5, in 10 innings.
For their efforts throughout the season, six Abington Heights players were selected to 2017 Pennsylvania High School Coaches Association Class 5A All-State team.
Freshman catcher Catherine Anne Kupinski, sophomore first baseman Nina Kozar and senior outfielder Alison Kane were first-team selections.
Kupinski finished the season with a .574 batting average, including six doubles, three triples and three home runs. She also drove in 21 runs.
Kozar finished the season with a .418 batting average, including four doubles and four home runs. She also drove in 25 runs.
Kane finished the season with a .464 batting average, 12 runs batted in and nine stolen bases.
Junior pitcher Meghan McGinley, junior second baseman Naudia Solan and freshman designated player Mara Hamm were second-team selections.
McGinley posted a 16-2 record with a 2.31 earned run average and 90 strikeouts. Offensively, she batted .367 with 21 RBIs.
Solan had a .449 batting average with nine RBIs and four steals. She was an honorable mention selection as a sophomore.
Hamm hit .518 with six doubles and 21 RBIs. She also had four steals.
