KANSAS CITY Mo. – Keystone College’s men’s and women’s soccer teams were both honored as the United Soccer Coaches announced the team academic award winners at the high school and college levels to recognize exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year.

A total of 813 collegiate teams (282 men, 531 women) earned awards. Keystone was one of 195 schools who had both their men’s and women’s programs among the recipients.

The women’s team, guided by head coach Noel Cox-Brown, garnered its third consecutive team academic award and fourth overall. The Giants posted a 3.39 overall team grade-point average last year. Keystone had 16 players earn Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) All-Academic Team honors last fall and finished with a 7-8-1 overall record.

The men’s team, led by head coach Joe Schneck, captured its third overall team academic award, which have all been in the last four years, including back-to-back seasons. The Giants posted a 3.05 overall team grade-point average last year and placed 13 players on the CSAC All-Academic Team. Keystone enjoyed a successful year on the field as well, going 9-7-1 overall, including a program-best 6-3 in conference games to earn the number-four seed and a home CSAC playoff game.

United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full school year. College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point of average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster.
